We spoke with Aaron, an electrician and owner of London-based company Cycling Sparks. Aaron has been cycling to and from his jobs around London since 2016 and hasn’t looked back!
Did you know that cargo bikes can take shortcuts through streets closed to other traffic, bypass traffic jams and ride straight to the customer’s door?
Cargo bikes really can be a great option for many different types of businesses – saving both time and money (not forgetting the big win for the environment, too!)
We spoke with Aaron, an electrician and owner of London-based company Cycling Sparks.
He told us about his journey so far 👇
I was running Cycling Sparks on my own for a good few years, just me and my push bike. Then I got my very first E-Cargo bike which allowed me to carry more tools and take on jobs that were further afield.
The E-Cargo bike was game-changing – I’d done it all on a push bike for so long and this just made everything easy.
It was in 2021 that I decided to really push the idea and buy a small fleet of E-Cargo bikes. Now we’ve got a fleet of five E-Cargo bikes, a few team members on-board and are continuing to expand.
For me, it’s the independence. The fact that I can just get up and go to work. I don’t need to worry about driving in heavy traffic, or getting onto a packed train or tube with all of my equipment. By bike, you’re not subject to the same kind of delays, it’s just very simple and easy.
As well as this, cycling for work has been great for my mental health. Cycling gives your brain something else to focus on while you’re travelling to and from work – so it’s a good chance to clear your mind and decompress.
There’s the obvious benefits of not getting stuck in traffic and being on-time for my jobs. But as well there are financial gains too, for example not having to worry about paying for parking, or about London’s congestion and ULEZ charges.
A lot of my mates who are still using vans have been impacted by the fuel crisis as well, there’s been times when they’ve had to spend all weekend queuing at petrol pumps trying to fill up. It’s really nice not to have to worry about things like this anymore, as well as the fact that fuel prices have increased so significantly.
Not having to worry about these things means that I have more time and energy to focus on other aspects of running the business.
