SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

We are looking to hire an experienced Communication and Community Engagement Officer to drive the expansion of our presence in France, strengthen our network of environmental, health, and grassroots organizations in France, and lead our communications strategy to achieve tangible local impact.

As the Communication & Community Engagement Officer for France, you will work alongside the Clean Cities coordinator in France to deliver Clean Cities’ campaign objectives in France. You will contribute to the overarching campaign goal of creating zero-emission urban mobility systems by the 2030s, with campaigns focussing on road space reallocation and decarbonizing road transport. You are responsible for driving our communications and community mobilization efforts, ensuring we maintain strong alignment with our coalition partners, in particular the ‘Streets for Kids’ community. You will play a central role in coordinating our work in Paris and nationally, actively managing relationships with partners, and ensuring the successful delivery of campaign objectives that accelerate the transition to healthier, fairer, and more sustainable cities.

YOUR TASKS WILL INCLUDE

Leading Communications and Digital Engagement

  • Taking ownership of the delivery of the communications strategy and bringing creative, fresh perspectives that engage wider audiences and proactively challenge the status quo.
  • Managing the delivery of digital content and social media, monitoring the performance of outputs and aligning with the wider Clean Cities and T&E teams to deliver an editorial calendar.
  • Leading engagement with journalists and the press, including drafting press releases, organizing press events, and maintaining a robust, up-to-date press database.

Executing Events and Public Engagement Activities

  • Organising and executing high-impact events, including ‘activation days’, stakeholder meetings, public debates, and trade shows, tailored to diverse audiences, including partner organisations, local and national policymakers and parent groups, managing them from initial conception to successful delivery.
  • Strategically integrating events with digital communication efforts, translating physical activations into momentum for social media channels and newsletters to maintain long-term audience engagement.

Mobilising and Engaging Community Groups

  • Acting as a representative for Clean Cities in France, you will oversee a coalition of partners, supporting them to align on objectives and ensuring they are empowered to contribute their core strengths.
  • Mobilising and cultivating the ‘Streets for Kids’ parent community, serving as the strategic lead and primary contact. Empower these stakeholders with the tools and advocacy frameworks needed to translate their passion into tangible local action.
  • Alongside our France Coordinator, overseeing and animating our Parisian coalition, ‘La Rue Est à Nous, and supporting partners including Respire, Paris en Selle, and Paris Piétons, to align on objectives and ensure they are empowered to contribute to their core strengths.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Experience in project coordination, communications and/or environmental advocacy. You have an enthusiasm and passion for advocating and for sustainable mobility, and ability to inspire others.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to translate complex public policy issues for diverse audiences, including the general public, parents, and decision-makers.
  • Strong skills in using social media and digital content to communicate campaign messaging, with skills in content software (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut, or other similar softwares) with a proven ability to deliver engaging content formats.
  • Track record in event organization or citizen mobilization, with a demonstrated ability to manage logistics and stakeholder engagement.
  • A proven ability to cultivate contacts and build lasting alliances leading to tangible results. Great networking skills are a must.
  • Proven knowledge of the political, NGO and grassroots landscape in France, and specifically Paris, and are well aware of the most relevant challenges and potential solutions regarding urban mobility and child-friendly city-advocacy.
  • Self-awareness, confidence and creativity with a willingness to try new things and innovate while maintaining our core work.
  • You have a commitment to the values of equity, authentic communication and collaboration.
  • You are a team player and have leadership skills.
  • You have native-speaker level proficiency in French and are comfortable working in English.
  • You are knowledgeable in dealing with group dynamics and have a passion for working with an international and multicultural team.
  • You are flexible and ready to work in the evening when necessary, and to travel for work purposes.
